To reach physicians, dentists and other healthcare-related professionals, a special information packet was created explaining the Quitline service. Note pads, that looked like prescription pads, were provided that had the name of the Quitline and the phone number on them. They made it easy to physicians to refer patients to the service. Each year, cessation campaigns included ads targeted to physicians that were placed in local medical journals. The logic behind all this was a survey that revealed that when doctors spoke to patients about quitting smoking, they took action.
