Wilmington, Del., March 23, 2005—African Americans Delawareans are at a greater risk of developing and dying from colorectal cancer than other Delawareans. The Delaware Cancer Consortium (DCC) Disparities Committee, charged with reducing the unequal cancer burden borne by minorities, is raising awareness of colorectal cancer in the state’s African American community as a first step in reducing the high mortality rate. The Disparities Committee chose to target colorectal cancer because it is preventable and treatable, unlike many other cancers.
