Colon cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in Delaware.

There is no one reason people get colon cancer. It is usually found in people who are older or in people who have had relatives with colon cancer. It is important for anyone who is 50 years of age or older to get tested for colon cancer—usually once every ten years. If you have a family history of colon cancer, you should have a colonoscopy when you’re ten years younger than the age at which your family member was diagnosed. A colonoscopy can find growths in the colon—called polyps—and remove them. Polyps can become colon cancer, so it's important to find and remove them early.
